Egyptian Beds – Inclined Bed Therapy

The Egyptian Beds were inclined from Foot to Head by 5°, though there is no conclusive evidence that this was done for any other reason but aesthetics or comfort, we are just now realizing the health benefits to be gained from IBT (Inclined Bed Therapy).

First of all I would like to note that the Egyptians understood Pythagorean Math before Pythagoras existed as did the Celts or least the Pre-Celts and even the Greeks given the accomplishments of their times. Now onto the subject at hand.

Construction / Engineering:

The Bed of the Egyptians was at a 5 degree incline from foot to head. Modern research seems to find that there are several health benefits to this design of which I will describe later in this blog. I would first like to show that the Egyptians had a fundamental understanding of Pythagoras’ Right Triangle, for without it the incline could not be consistently 5 degrees.

If you take a modern queen size bed at 80 inches in length, the incline is at 5 degrees and the height of incline is just under 7 inches. this can be found using Pythagoras’ Theorem; 80*sin(5)=6.9724, and the distance from foot to head at ground level would be just under 79 and 3/4 inches or; 80*cos(5)= 79.6955. I will be constructing a frame for my existing Queen size bed to evaluate the health benefits first hand.

Health Benefits:

*Note* Everything I have seen suggests to start at a 2 to 3 inch incline first before proceeding to the full 5° *Note*

  • Teenager reports all pimples went in two weeks (verified).
  • MS, Parkinson’s, Hashimoto’s and Arthritis improvements.
  • Huge detox to the body, this has been verified via client response to lymphatic massage (clients on IBT no-longer display symptoms of toxin flush) when they are sleeping on an incline.
  • Sleep right through the night. Breathing problems eliminated, sleep apnea, snoring, cot deaths resolved.
  • Provides Fascia Trauma Unwinding – Check the Myofascial Release menu. Absolutely incredible how this function of Inclined Bed Therapy operates. If you want to feel young, pain free, energized and in top health, give this a go.
  • Bones actually grow longer, you will grow taller.
  • Balances the pelvic girdle and addresses Scoliosis/Kyphosis/Lordosis and Dowager’s hump problems.
  • Never be cold again in Winter, IBT keeps the body metabolism ticking along. You will get hotter in Summer, so take off the extra covers.
  • People with high blood pressure have seen their blood pressure normalize after a few months.
  • Nightly dreams become lucid (may be a product of lower toxins in the body and elevated oxygen levels).
  • Your heart wont work as hard, now this is going to extend life 10, may be 20 years, may be more ?
  • Oedema problems resolved.
  • The most common report is that sleeping on an incline feels more natural than sleeping flat. People after sleeping inclined for a few months are never happy going back to sleeping horizontal. This is very addictive, you’ll actually enjoy going to bed.
  • People who spend $40 per month or more on general headache and pain killing drugs now have extra savings as they no-longer suffer head-aches or pain.
  • A message to smokers! For the first few weeks, may be a month, you will start coughing when you get out of bed in the morning, and this may pass after half an hour or so. This is IBT repairing your lungs. The increased humidity in your lungs and respiration improvements will provide an opportunity for your body to help repair damage done from smoking. IBT will also make it easier to kick the habit and for you to enter the wellness zone.
  • The best part is, it is free.

Thank you for your blog about IBT.

Here is where IBT is heading.

Inclined Bed Therapy (IBT) Varicose Veins Study.

    Inclined To Sleep Inclined Yet?
    Dear Reader
We are seeking more people with varicose veins who are willing to put IBT to the test and feel that this is something that your readers and colleagues will definitely find fascinating and some who have varicose veins and oedema and wish to avoid surgery may want to Help in this important trial and join our Free study which has already produced positive results in only 4 weeks as predicted!
    News Release:
An Important Scientific Study into the cause of Varicose Veins and Oedema and Inclined Bed Therapy (I.B.T.) is now underway, which makes use of the way the body uses gravity to move solutes through the vessels to improve circulation and alter the pressure inside the veins to significantly reduce swelling and oedema. Our study is free for anyone to participate in. There are no products to be sold or marketed.
    What is Inclined Bed Therapy?
Gravity was identified as the driving force behind circulation in trees in 1994 and was applied immediately to how circulation in the body benefits from the same interaction with salts and sugars in the circulation. A video showing the use of IBT with spinal cord injury can be viewed here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3D7tBQfCxQ
IBT is simply tilting the bed so that the head end is 15 cm’s or 6 inches higher than the foot end providing a level but tilted bed, hence the name Inclined Bed Therapy.
People with varicose veins, oedema (fluid retention) are needed to participate in an online Diary Study, in order to prove that simply altering our sleeping position can have a positive affect on these problems.
If you or someone you know has Varicose Veins, the standard advise is to raise your legs and tilt your bed the other way to IBT, Or to undergo risky and expensive surgery that is prone to fail because it does not address why the pressure inside the vein causes it to bulge.
Which according to current physiology books makes sense. But what if that logic is incorrect? All the evidence from our study is showing that gravity is not a force we are struggling to overcome but a force that drives the fluids within the body.
Are you prepared to take the 4 week challenge and provide us with your observations? Or do you know someone who has varicose veins and would like to watch them slowly but surely shrink and improve every night they go to bed instead of becoming more unsightly and uncomfortable?
Our study is located on the Naked Scientists forum, who have a regular slot on BBC Radio. http://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/index.php?topic=9843.msg121037#msg121037
My wife’s calf showing clearly her varicose vein shadow, which went flat after 4 weeks of Inclined Bed Therapy back in 1994 and has not returned to its former state since. http://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/index.php?topic=9843.msg121037#msg121037
Alun has already confirmed my statement on the study thread that Varicose veins will shrink after 4 weeks of IBT and has supplied us with photographic before and after 4 weeks of IBT along with a diary account of his observations. And he is not alone. http://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/index.php?topic=9843.75

We are hoping to find at least 50 more pioneering volunteers who wish to avoid surgery and it’s inherent risks and failures, who are willing to provide us with photographic and a written account of their own experiences sleeping inclined.
So far our study is running towards a predicted outcome that flies in the face of current physiology literature.
    Photographic Evidence: Higher Resolution
1st Photograph: Male 34 years. Varicose vein on calf muscle following 10 weeks of IBT.
2nd Photograph: Same Male 34 years showing Varicose Vein on Calf Muscle 6 months of IBT

Look forward to hearing from you.
    Yours sincerely Andrew K Fletcher

Sandra says IBT has been a life changing experience after 46 years of walking in pain after she was hit by a motorcycle age 13. A year ago she began using Inclined Bed Therapy. She forgot to mention she had problems with her hip, walked bent over, and recovered from a prolapsed bladder without surgery.
