Decoctions – Barks, Roots, Chips, Seeds

This is the basic method for creating a decoction…

  • Bring water to a boil (same as for an Infusion)
  • Mash with mortar and pestle
  • Place 2 or more oz. into an enamel saucepot while lit. Pour in enough water to cover. Place lid on pot and bring water to a boil. Stir; reduce heat and simmer 30 minutes. The longer the herbs steep, the stronger your decoction. strain through cheesecloth and store in glass bottles.
